Summertime and an itch to share.

This is where I start my days, most days. Work days.  Play days will be starting at some other as-yet-to-be-disclosed spot.

Aye-Aye or Eye-Eye

I have never seen a live lemur, but I bet they are amazing little creatures.  Once again I sourced this image from an old National Geographic magazine photograph.  It was suggested to me that this particular type of lemur is called an Aye-Aye, which I misunderstood initially as an Eye-Eye. You can see why i would make this mistake. Now I know better.

"The aye-aye (Daubentonia madagascariensis) is a lemur, a strepsirrhine primate native to Madagascar that combines rodent-like teeth and a special thin middle finger to fill the same ecological niche as a woodpecker. It is the world's largest nocturnal[4] primate, and is characterized by its unusual method of finding food; it taps on trees to find grubs, then gnaws holes in the wood using its forward slanting incisors to create a small hole in which it inserts its narrow middle finger to pull the grubs out."

keeping track

I realize that I have made quite a bit of art over the last year and a half that I haven't really shown anyone.  Being pregnant took over my life, which seems approriate, but it did make it hard to share my projects with anyone. I love this little painting of the Berlin Wall.  It is acrylic on panel which is a medium I don't usually work with. It is also after a National Geographic Magazine photo from the early 80's, another departure for me as I don't usually use photographs as source material.  In any case, I think this one turned out well. I heard that developers are trying to tear down the remaining segments of the Berlin Wall to build appartment buildings.  I can't say I'm for it. It is such an important piece of history and it is good to have reminders of what has happened, even if they are painful ones.

making art with a baby sleeping on my lap

Oscar is 6 weeks old today.  I love him more than anything and I want art to be a part of his life from the very beginning.  In order to do that, I need to be making art myself.  SO, in an attempt to be creative, even just a little bit every day, I thought I would start this blog.  Luckily I can type while he sleeps on my lap!
