There was a period in my life where I took many drives from Northern California to Las Vegas, Nevada. This is a long 10 hr drive and seems endless especially with three kids in the car. But midpoint, or slightly after, there is this place called Tehachapi. It is in the mountains and the thing that stands out the most when you are roadtripping this route, besides the cool name, is the giant windmill farms. There are so many windmills. They are huge and iconic and proliferous. Wind turbines may be a controversial landmark. There is a lot to be said for natural undisturbed beauty. But there is also something to be said about this dramatic statement of windmills. Like giant trees or flowers. There are so many of them. And they are so huge. HUGE, as my kids point out. You cannot miss them. And they haunt me just a little bit.
